High Cotton!!!

Another painting in steps! This time, a cotton sign. Grab yourself an 18"x24" gallery wrapped canvas. Paint it with a good coat of raw umber. Then, a coat of white. Let it dry well and then sand and scratch and generally abuse the canvas. Draw on your design and you're ready to paint.
Letters and a red stripe. I did one a while back for a Georgia lady. This one's for TEXAS!
Some shading and highlights...
Paint on that cotton field, a star and a big cotton plant! More distressing, add some white here and there...
Add burnt umber around edges for that good, old, dirty, rusty look...
AND YOU'RE DONE!
This painting is off to Texas to a cotton farming family. YOu gotta LOVE it!!!
This pic is fairly clear. Zoom in for a closer look if you need details.
Later gators,
: ) Ronnie

That's sick!!! I mean that as a compliment. I always though cotton had little Fruit Of The Loom labels on each cotton ball. Uh... Is that just a myth?

What talent .... Alan Jackson, Jason Aldean, Jennifer Nettles & RONNIE. The great state of Georgia is crankin' out the superstars.....

Very nice! :-)

Awh, Thanks you guys. very very sweet. I think about you often, Renee. Talk about a superstar!

Dave, you is a superstar in you own state, baybuh!
(Don't be scared. I'm trying to talk like a real Georgian.)
How are the sales going on that GREAT book you wrote!?

Mercy Me! You are welcome to stalk to your hearts desire. Thanks for the sweet things. I dream stuff up when my husband is snoring and I can't sleep. Other artists too. Look at Cedric Smith on my link list. He inspired the dirty stuff I'm into.
He is absolutely brilliant. Started out as a barber and decided to paint.

This is wonderful. I know they will love it. The lettering reminds me of the signs my father painted when I was a child. He has been gone so long that I had completely forgotten that he did this. I think it is so cool that you show us the sequence in which you do things. Such a talent, you are. Take care, Susan

Woooooow, your signs are terrific!! I like seeing your process too. Awesome!

I have clients that are retired cotton farmers. They were also big melon growers too. That's a hard life.
